Alessia Cara surprised us with new EP This Summer a few weeks ago, and gave us one of the best songs from the record with “Rooting for You”. This relatable tune just got a music video that perfectly captures its message.

Cara’s
new video sheds a light on a series of disappointments we all went through –
some more serious than the others. Whether it’s losing your job, dealing with
relationship issues or simply burning the cookies that you tried to make
without a recipe, we’re pretty sure you’ll find a situation you relate to in
this video.

Alessia Cara discussed this song during a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show and explained it’s all about mourning the opportunity to build a good relationship that looked promising in the beginning, before taking a turn for the worst.

“I
feel like it’s a similar situation that we all kind of go through where we are
having, like, a friendship with someone or maybe a relationship or
whatever.  And you think it’s going great,
and then it takes a turn,” said the Grammy-winning singer.
